Housing company goes Energy Efficient

December, 2013

I'm pleased to finish the year with a great story that has always been very important to me. I'm passionate about our environment, which is why I'm always looking for ways to increase the energy efficiency of my lighting designs.

Now a large housing company here in New Zealand has just introduced LED down-lighting into their homes. These will cost slightly more initially, but over time they will pay themselves off and save home-buyers a fortune in bulb replacements. To demonstrate how good they are, a normal bulb will last 1000 hours. While this might seem like a lot, the LED down-lights will last a massive 40,000 hours. In other words, they will last 40 times as long as the lights most people use, but not 40 times the cost.

A group of dedicated professionals made this possible. This included the Housing Company, a Lighting Company, a Wholesaler and an Electrical Contractor. They are to be congratulated.

A word of warning. While this is fantastic news, it does not eliminate the need for homes to have their own individual lighting designs. LEDs are the way to help the environment and save money in the long term. But to create the right ambience in each room and enhance the moods of residents and guests, a lighting design is essential.
