Mashina Nightclub Christchurch Casino

October, 2013

This was the first nightclub project I've worked on and one I thoroughly enjoyed. I found the setting up phase similar to the major stage musicals I've worked on. The biggest challenge was lighting a space that would double as a nightclub and Banquette room.

This meant there had to be maximum flexibility because one night it would be used as a nightclub, and the next something completely different.

It can be turned completely white with the switch of a button if necessary, while there are separate lighting controls to create the right ambience for different occasions. There is also another set for the dancing area when being used as a nightclub.

This took months of planning, because every light fitting is vital to the overall project' while working with people from all the other disciplines such as interior designers was important. The team at the Casino were wonderful to work with. I know them well now, having designed the lighting throughout the rest of the complex.
